Indigenous peoples

For my first thing i was wondering of native tribes that are from places that I’ve been. So to start I went with googling Indigenous tribes in South Carolina. there were a lot that came up but the min that caught my eye was the Yamasee tribe. Who were mainly known for being gentle but also having the best battle tragedies. Which are two things that made me even more interested in their music. Thinking that it could give sort of a gentle Tribal sound but I was also expecting a triumphant war tune that would come based of the lives that they have lived. In this song i found the name is called “ The kingdom of peacekeepers’s” which is a Yamasee tribal song. This tribal song does have lots of elements but it is typical when it comes to the phosphate . With a flute that is making the tone but also someone in the background doing percussion which I thought was a pretty cool ‘beat’ for the tune.

The second thing, I was very interested once i heard about the ghost dance. Something i didn’t know much about it until i looked it up. But i found it originated kind of recently in the 1890s that was mainly a ceremony for native Americans. I watched this video that labeled it as a spiritual movement that was mainly based in the American West. Having a big impact because it came as a ceremony to the last big battles of this tribe. Very closely linked with eh Wounded Knee massacre that resulted in 300 Lakota people at the hands of the United States Army.

for my third thing i did something similar to my first thing BUT NOT THE SAME Thing. I chose to look at tribes and their music from Florida. So I ended up choosing the Music from the Apalachee tribe music. There were lots of things that i learned from a video i chose. This video is a small snippet of a longer documentary about the life of Appalachian. Some of the music that we listen to such as bluegrass and some country originated from Appalachee music. Which is cool because that kind of music is very popular this days and it has come a very very long way. In the video it starts off with someone playing the music that isn’t very appealing to the ear. but it then goes in to detail of how the music originated from this area. Which i thought was very cool and exciting.

  1. The tribal song, “The Kingdom of Peacekeepers” sounded really cool and it does seem to have various elements. The Ghost dance was very interesting to learn about and it was cool to hear how it came to be. I did not realize that it is related to the Wounded Knee Massacre and that it is used after battles. The Ghost dance seems to have a really rich history and is very important in that tribe's culture.

  2. I enjoyed listening to "The Kingdom of Peacekeepers" because it felt meditative or soothing, and the flute added a beautiful, airy tone. And being from Florida, I can understand the intrigue of learning about music from the Appalachian tribe. It's so cool to see indigenous culture throughout all of America.

  3. Jordan I was really glad that you touched on the Ghost dance because a lot of people gave us footage of the dance but with this video I felt like I actually learned more about why they did it and what it was really all about. I was intrigued with your last video because I LOVE the banjo. I liked how they talked about it was music from the settlement and their lifestyle which goes hand in hand with things that changed the Native American lifestyle.
